Gospels of John Introduced
After we moved into the Clara Street factory (1992) the quantity of literature printed continued to increase. In 1994 we began to receive requests for Gospels of John from various ministries so we began to print relatively small numbers of Gospels in various languages. Mr Stanley Hodge had become interested in the ministry and when he saw Gospels of John being printed – he produced an introduction “Seven Steps to Knowing God” – this consisted mainly of headings explaining the Way of Salvation with verses taken from the Gospel of John. Since that time this was included in the printing of the Gospel of John and has been a blessing to millions of people. We have printed Gospels of John in more than 40 languages.
We then began to be inundated with requests for Gospels of John so we had to decide how to increase the number of copies printed. The advice that we received was to purchase a web press which would print from rolls of paper. We were also advised to purchase a “Web Leader” press – we began searching for one of these machines. The first one that we were offered was in New Zealand.
The second machine we were offered was in the Irish News in Belfast. When we went to see it we discovered a very large press – most of it was very old but there were good printing units in it – at first we were told that they wanted to sell it all as one machine – however we only wanted the relatively new printing units. We decided to put an offer in just to buy the good units – previously others had done something similar but as the machine had been on the market for months with no offers for the entire machine nothing had been sold. We were therefore delighted when they accepted our offer. The machine was then built in our factory – in due course Robin McCulla and Douglas Condell became the operators of the web press for many years.
